Guiding Principles of the Reform Group
Bring together all separately elected property tax related offices to introduce reforms to the property assessment and tax system that produce predictable, accurate, fair, and equitable results in a timely and efficient manner.
The property tax system is enormous and complex. It requires a comprehensive approach and long-term commitment by all offices and stakeholders involved.
Cook County residents, businesses, and community leaders are centered in every systematic change. For each set of reforms, a targeted engagement plan will be implemented for relevant stakeholders.
Objective, third-party research, data, and shared sets of facts based on industry standards and best practices guide all research and the resulting policy recommendations.
Sustainable change will only come when all relevant County offices are included. The staff working group meets regularly to track progress, discuss research findings, and align reform recommendations.
The Reform Group releases annual reports to evaluate the overall performance of the property tax system. Research and other work products will always be publicly available.
